Myfrida Hollow: A Playful Handwritten Font for Makers

It started with a candle label—just one small 2.5-inch oval sticker, printed on matte kraft paper and peeled off the backing to test how it felt in my hand. I’d been cycling through fonts for weeks: too stiff, too formal, too busy. Then I opened Myfrida Hollow. Instantly, that soft, rounded “hello” in the preview window made me smile—and more importantly, it looked like something I’d actually write myself with a fine-tip marker on a handmade tag.

Myfrida Hollow is a handwritten font with gentle curves, open counters, and a relaxed rhythm that breathes warmth into every letter. It’s not fussy or overly scripted—it’s friendly, approachable, and full of quiet personality. As a Script Amp font, it leans into expressive gesture without sacrificing legibility, making it ideal for makers who want charm *and* clarity. The “hollow” style gives it subtle airiness—perfect for cut files, watercolor-style overlays, or minimalist packaging where negative space matters.

I first used it on a set of seasonal greeting cards—think birthday, baby shower, and “just because” notes. The lowercase ‘g’ and ‘y’ have that sweet, looping bounce, while capitals sit comfortably beside them, never shouting. On printed cardstock, the letters hold their shape beautifully at 18–24pt, and even at 14pt on a small boutique tag, they remain distinct and inviting. For Cricut and Silhouette users, the clean vector outlines cut cleanly on vinyl and sticker paper—no jagged edges, no lost detail in the curves.

It shines brightest in display roles: product names on candle jars, shop banners on Instagram, titles on printable wall art, or the “Welcome” line on a wedding welcome board. Because it’s a handwritten font, it adds instant humanity—like your brand just leaned in to say something kind. That emotional resonance matters. Customers don’t buy candles—they buy cozy moments. They don’t buy planner pages—they buy intention and calm. Myfrida Hollow helps tell that story before a single word is read.

I’ve layered it across so many real projects: a set of farmhouse-style wooden signs (with light distressing and soft gray stain), a bundle of digital planner stickers (designed to print crisp on glossy sticker sheets), and even the front-of-pack text for a small-batch herbal tea blend—where its roundness echoed the soothing, grounded feel of chamomile and lemon balm.

For wedding stationery, it works especially well when paired with a simple sans serif font—think Montserrat Light or Poppins Regular—for body text. The contrast feels intentional, modern, and deeply personal. Same goes for boutique packaging: use Myfrida Hollow for the product name (“Lavender Honey Soap”) and a clean serif like Lora or Merriweather for ingredients and care instructions. That pairing builds trust—playful but professional, creative but credible.

It’s also become my go-to for digital downloads. When designing printable wall art—especially quotes meant for nurseries or classrooms—I choose Myfrida Hollow for the main phrase and leave plenty of breathing room around it. Its generous x-height and open letterforms scale beautifully from phone previews to large-format prints. And because it’s a commercial font licensed for digital resale, I can confidently include it in editable Canva templates and layered PSD files—knowing buyers can personalize text without licensing hiccups.

Readability is where Myfrida Hollow truly earns its place in my design toolkit. It’s not built for long paragraphs—that’s not its job. But for short phrases, names, titles, and decorative accents? Absolutely. On mugs and tote bags, it holds up well even at medium sizes (30–40pt), especially when printed with quality DTG or screen printing. For iron-on transfers, I always check the spacing—tight kerning can sometimes blur in heat application, so I’ll loosen it slightly in design software before exporting.

Before using it commercially, I double-checked what’s included: OTF and TTF files, basic OpenType features (standard ligatures and stylistic alternates), and full commercial licensing for physical products, digital templates, and merchandise. No multilingual glyphs—but for English-first shops (especially those serving kids, wellness, home, or celebration markets), that’s rarely a limitation. What *is* lovely are the subtle swashes on select capitals—just enough flair for a wedding invitation envelope or a holiday gift tag, without overwhelming the composition.

I’ve used it on seasonal items, too—think “Cozy Season” on a linen tea towel, “Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice” on a fall-themed sticker sheet, or “You’re My Person” in delicate script on a friendship card. Each time, it lands with sincerity—not trend-chasing, but heart-led. That’s the quiet power of a well-chosen display font: it doesn’t shout. It connects.

If you're choosing typography for your handmade business, remember this: fonts are part of your voice. Not the whole thing—but a vital, visible part. Myfrida Hollow doesn’t try to be everything. It’s joyful, grounded, and unpretentiously human—and that makes it endlessly useful across labels, cards, packaging, printables, and shop branding. Whether you're sketching mockups on paper or layering vectors in Illustrator, it invites you to slow down, lean in, and let your creativity show up exactly as it is: warm, thoughtful, and full of life.

And yes—it still makes me smile every time I type “hello” just to see how those little loops settle on the page.
